Mrs. Donna Hickson
Donna Hickson was born on October 5, 1955 in Sumter, SC. With the exception of her college days, she has lived her entire life in Bishopville as have her parents, Rosalyn and Murdic Hancock. Her older sister, Mary H. Jeffords, lives in Hartsville.
During her childhood, she attended both public and private school in Lee County. In June of 1973, she graduated from Robert E. Lee Academy, and in August of that same year, she entered Clemson University. She received a Bachelor of Art degree in Early Childhood Education from Clemson in May of 1977. Following her graduation, she taught second grade at Spaulding Elementary in Lamar, SC for four years. During that time, she also married her high school sweetheart, Rick Hickson.
She came to REL in 1981 and continued to teach second grade until one son, Turner, was born in June of 1985. She was a stay-at-home mom for five years. When Turner began kindergarten at REL in 1990, she returned to the classroom. Since that time, she has solely taught at Robert E. Lee Academy, and she is presently in her 24th year of teaching second grade. She and Rick have been married for 27 years, and he is currently a Farm Bureau Insurance Agency Manager in Manning. Turner is a junior at Clemson University. They are all members of Bethlehem United Methodist Church.
She loves her job as a teacher, and her profession has greatly enriched her life. "I am very blessed to be able to teach at a school that is so wonderful and so dear to my heart."
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family. They are beach people, avid Clemson Tiger football fans, and they love to snow ski.
