Private Scholarships - Check with any clubs or organizations to which you belong to see if they have scholarships available. Also check companies for which your parents may work. Many offer scholarships to children of employees and application procedures vary.

South Carolina Teaching Fellows – Offers the state’s best students the opportunity to compete for scholarships for four years to those who complete a degree leading to a career in education at certain universities. Fellows must agree to teach in SC public schools one year for each year the scholarship is received. Elks National Most Valuable Student provides 500, four year scholarships of $1,000 to $15,000 to high school seniors pursuing a four year degree on a full time basis. Applications available in guidance office or online at www.elks.org/enf/scholars . Must be received at local office by December 7, 2012.
Elks Legacy Awards are available to children and grandchildren of dues-paying Elks members. Applications are entirely online.
Nucor Scholarships- Available to children of employees. Check with Nucor for application procedures.
Louise Wilson Scholarship Foundation – Available to students from local area who will pursue a degree in the medical field at an accredited school. Money is available in the form of low interest loans (lower than federal student loans).Applications for the 2012-2013 school year are due by May 1, 2013. Administered through NBSC. Contact NBSC or the guidance office for more details.
Anderson University Portfolio Competition - Visual Art Programs applicants will be considered for scholarships up to $3,500.00. Spring competition will begin in February. Register at www.andersonuniversity.edu. Must submit portfolio for review.
American Legion Oratorical Scholarship – 8-10 minute speech on any phase of US Constitution. Winners will receive $3500, $2000, or $1000. http://www.legion.org/oratorical/contests for complete details. Competition is in February.

The University of South Carolina offers over 500 scholarships each year to the entering freshman class. In order to be considered for one of these awards, students should be early applicants for admission to the University; we strongly encourage you to apply by no later than November 1st. Students who wish to be considered for the Carolina Scholars, McNair Scholars, and Alumni Scholars awards will need to complete the University Scholarship Application which is available from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as well as most high-school guidance offices in the state. The completed University Scholarship Application to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions must be postmarked by December 1st., both for South Carolina students and for out-of-state students.
