Elementary and Middle school put on a "Country" Show
On April 30th, the middle school students entertained parents and friends with a country music concert! They sang and danced to songs by Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood, and more.  The Show Choir performed "Worthy of Praise."  There were many duet and solo acts, as well as dance performances.

On May 7th, the elementary school students performed a different "country" concert.  Their's was a concert filled with patriotic songs and narrations that took us back to a different time in our country's history: WWII to the 1950's.  The children sang the Battle Hymn of the Republic, Splish Splash, and a fun 50's medley that left the crowd smiling!

Lights! Camera! Action!

The REL stage resembled the red carpet of Hollywood as the Mr. and Miss Robert E. Lee Academy contestants took the stage last week. Congratulations to Mr. Josh Gough, Mr. Robert E. Lee Academy 2008, and Miss Brittany Powers, Miss Robert E. Lee Academy 2008. Josh and Brittany were both representatives of the Senior class.

Josh is the son of Mike and Sheri Rhyne and plans to attend Coastal Carolina in the fall majoring in Political Science with a minor in Pre-Law. Josh is a member of the REL Student Council and enjoys the atmosphere here at REL.

Brittany is the daughter of Margaret and the late David Powers of Hartsville, SC. She plans to attend school in the fall majoring in medical technology, specializing in computerized tomography (CT) scanning. Brittany also hopes to one day become a world champion goat tyer. She is a member of the South Carolina High School Rodeo team, where she is fourteenth in the state for goat tying. Brittany is a member of the REL Student Council and is a co-editor of the school’s yearbook.

Again, we congratulate these two great REL students and wish them well as they represent our school for the coming year.

High School Art I Class

While studying African Tribal masks, the Art I students designed their own "tribal" masks. We hope you will enjoy the funny pictures as much as the students.

Merry Christmas!

REL had its annual Grandparents' Day Christmas program on December 12th.  The students reminded us of all the Reasons for the Christmas Season.  Mrs. Micara Baker conducted a melodious, entertaining program.

During the month of October, Mrs. Kim and Mrs. Eva's kindergarteners used pumpkins to study estimation, weighing and measuring.  They wrote and illustrated "Pumpkin Books" to record their estimations and the actual weights and measurements of their pumpkins.  After working with the pumpkins all week, the students painted their pumpkins to celebrate Halloween!  Also, the students carved a jack-o'-lantern.  They learned about different products made from pumpkin and sampled toasted pumpkin seeds and pumpkin pie!  They used the jack-o'-lantern to listen to spooky stories!  Later, they  ended the Halloween season with a wiener/ marshmallow roast, apple bobbing and games.  The school party was a huge success with plenty of good food, face painting and games!
