The Robbie Stokes Memorial Scholarship Fund

James Robert "Robbie" Stokes, Jr.

Date of Birth: May 7, 1977

Robbie Stokes was a 1995 graduate of Robert E. Lee Academy. On March 9, 1997, he was killed in an automobile accident. He was currently attending Florence-Darlington Technical College and had been accepted to attend the University of South Carolina for the upcoming year.

Robbie attended Robert E. Lee all of his years of schooling. While here, he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. He loved hunting, especially deer hunting and rabbit hunting. He was very involved in his church.

After Robbie’s death many of his friends and their families organized a scholarship fund in order to award a worthy senior each year. Mrs. Kathryn Welch, along with her son and Robbie’s good friend Stephen, also hold a golf tournament at the Bishopville Country Club each year in memory of Robbie. Every year many of his classmates and friends participate in the tournament in order to contribute to the scholarship in his memory. The proceeds of this tournament go towards the Robbie Stokes Memorial Scholarship Fund. Since 1997, thousands of dollars in scholarship money has been awarded to deserving seniors who must attend either a two-year or four-year college or university. The scholarship amount is currently $1000 per year.
