Cavs Care

Our students, faculty, and staff participate in many programs throughout the year to help others.  We care about our community and the well-being of those less fortunate than ourselves.  When a person is in need, Robert E. Lee Academy reaches out to help in anyway they can.  In the 2004-2005 school year, our students participated in the following outreach programs:

  • The fifth and sixth graders raised $420 for a memorial to Colby Wright's church.

  • The entire school collected over 30 cell phones to be reprogrammed for 911 for Sister Care, a home for battered women in Columbia.

  • The school sponsored "Play For Shane," a benefit concert for a 2004 graduate paralyzed in a car accident.  The school also raised over $1,200 in collections for Shane and his family.

  • The high school students created teams that participated in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.  They were awarded for being the largest fundraising group in Lee County, raising more than $3,100.

  • The entire school pulled together to collect $6,000 for Jessica's Jar.  Jessica, a first grader, was in an accident with her mother, younger sister and brother.  Her mother and sister did not survive and Jessica was badly injured.

  • The Anchor Club sent more than 50 shoe boxes overseas to Lee County soldiers stationed in Iraq last year.

  • The Anchor Club collected used tennis shoes to be recycled by the Nike Corporation.  These sneakers were used to create running tracks for under-privileged neighborhoods with no walking/running facilities.

Pancakes for Carly

Thank you to EVERYONE who helped make the Pancake Breakfast a success! The REL family has raised over $3,500 for the Copelands!  Carly, an REL 4th grader, and her parents David and Charlene lost their home in a fire on May 1st.  Donations are still being accepted.

We would like to thank everyone for supporting Relay For Life.  For the third year in a row, REL was the top fundraising team in the county.  This year our total after Relay was $10, 419 with more to come!   This is more than double our goal and over $3,000 more than we raised last year.
Again we honored the memory of our dear friend Mr. Thomas Dabbs and others we have lost to cancer while celebrating with survivors like 2nd grader Cody Watson who led the Survivor Lap and 2nd grade teacher Pam Cummings who was the speaker at Lee County's Kickoff for Relay!
Relay is described as "a community that takes up a fight".  Thanks again to all of you who are part of the REL Community and helped support this fight that touches the lives of us and so many around us.

REL collected 508 boxes!

Thank you to each and every member of the Robert E. Lee family and the communities they represent for their part is the packing of 508 shoeboxes! Just imagine-there are 508 children somewhere in the world who will receive your special gift accompanied by the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ this Christmas! It takes many people all over the country to make this project happen, and many of you are right here around Bishopville. For example, Mrs. Ginsberg donated empty shoeboxes, which were all filled. The Student Council wrapped and packed quite a few of those shoeboxes with items they contributed along with toys donated by Food Lion, thanks to Richard Murphy. We even had Mr. Randy Burns from The Item come out and do an article on the project. Countless others shopped, saved Happy Meal toys, collected money, offered extra credit, and prayed for the project.  Please remember to pray for the child who will receive YOUR shoebox. May they feel the love that’s been wrapped inside.

REL's Relay For Life team raised $7,081!  Thanks, REL, for all the hard work.

Jumping Rope For AHA

REL raised $2,160 during Jump Rope For Heart!
Way to go, REL!

On Thursday, April 6th the students in K5-6th grade jumped ropes, played field games, and "hula hooped" for a good cause.  Every year the school participates in the American Heart Association's Jump Rope for Heart program. Thanks to all who participated to raise money for such a good cause.

Helping Katrina Victims

The students of the Foreign Language Club worked hard to try to raise money for Katrina victims.   The grand total raised was $4,785.02, including the donation from the Student Council.  Thank you to all who helped with this project!
